ANTIQUE FRENCH PLATINUM DIAMOND AND SAPPHIRE NECKLACE, C1910
Antique Jewelry. Circa 1905 -1910, Platinum, French. This charming Belle Époque necklace is a magnificent example of early platinum jewelry. Every facet of the design is meticulously detailed, from the fine bead work to the well matched stones. The belle fleur motif festooning its delicately structured swag architecture is stunningly beautiful. A superior example of period French jewelry, it is set with brilliant diamonds and excellent French cut calibrated sapphires. Found in its original box, the condition is excellent with possible very, very slight chipping to one sapphire noted, impossible to see without magnification. HALLMARKS: Tested platinum, badly struck marks on both sides of jump ring, (location prescribe by French law). Eagle's head assay for 18K. This dates the piece to pre-1911 when the gold mark was used for both gold and platinum. On the other side is a bigorne anti-counterfeiting mark. Noted; gold solder is used in some of the chain work. this is common to the period. SIZE: approximately 16 1/2" in length. WEIGHT: 36.8g. STONES: European cut diamonds and calibrated French cut Ceylon color sapphires. We were able to verify a sampling of the sapphires as natural so we assume all are natural.
