Circa 1970s, 14k, by Fred and Lolita Natachu, Zuni, American. This spectacular pendant by renowned Zuni silversmiths Fred & Lolita Natachu spins and shows the Sunface or Sun Father on one side and the Rainbow Man on the other. Using traditional inlaid stone work, this in an iconic piece for the Natachu's, generally made in silver and in simpler forms. This very rare 14k gold example was custom ordered in 1979 (original letter and receipt included). The look effortlessly blends modern design with traditional motifs. The spiritual message of this pendant honors the Rain and Sun that brings the seasonality which sustains our life and to recognize how we are protected by nature's harmony. Excellent condition.

Noted: The Sun Father motif honors the sun's vital role in all aspects of Zuni life, and the Rainbow man symbolizes protection, often depicted on Zuni war shields; the Rainbow represents the rain which is life in the arid lands of the Zuni people.

Chain shown is a separate item.

Remarks from Lawrence Jeffrey: "The modernist jewelry of the Zuni people has an elegant, casual vibe, which is iconically American."
