Inv. #22186
#22186 - Pair Of Wedgwood Creamware Chestnut Baskets and Underplates c1790s
Price:
$4,800.00
Circa 1790s, by Wedgwood, England. This pair of Chestnut Baskets and underplates was one of Wedgwood's most intricate handmade designs. Redolent of the Georgian period, this color combination is gorgeous and rare. While sublimely fine and elegant, they have a naïve feel that is visually charming. A very delicate piece, it is rare to find one much less a pair. Very good condition with a very slight original loss to the weave which was hidden by color (hard to see).
Remarks from Lawrence Jeffrey:
"Few luxuries compare to that of living with history. Offering your guests chestnuts or citrus fruit was a Georgian ostentation."
Condition:
Very good condition.
Hallmarks:
Impressed Wedgwood hallmark and painted quality control mark.
Measurements:
underplate is a 10 1/2 inch oval, bowl is a 9 1/2 inch oval
